1. The most important part of taking good pictures is to make sure that everybody is in a good mood, for children this is usually after they have eaten and are well rested. Clothing without distracting designs or patterns works best as it allows the focus to be on the model.
2. The ideal place to take portraits is outside where the natural lighting makes any picture look best. However, if you are taking pictures of newborns, try setting up an area inside your house. Place a solid color piece of fabric like a sheet, table cloth, or blanket under your little model. Make sure that in the photo you see only your baby and the fabric. And remember to choose a time of day when you receive the most natural light in your room.
3. Be sure to set your camera on the highest resolution possible and to turn the date stamp OFF.
4. Get up close and personal! For newborns don’t forget to take close ups of their baby parts- who can resist baby toes? To get sharp images of close ups, put your camera on the flower setting.
5. Take many pictures! The more pictures you take the greater chance of getting the perfect shot, and with digital cameras what is there to lose?
